"Time is our most valuable asset,
yet we tend to waist it, kill it, and spin it rather than invest
it." ~ Jim Rohn
Manage
Your Life, Not Your Time... by Isaac "Ike" Nuru
Have you ever stopped to consider how to manage
your life, and not just your time?
The majority of people keep a calendar of some sort, whether
it is paper or electronic. On that calendar can be found all
of the important "To Do" items that make up one's life: picking
up suits from the dry cleaners, meetings, doctor's appointments,
and maybe which bills are due when. What a sense of accomplishment
we feel when we can check these items off! Wow, we really got
stuff done, huh?
Great, so we got "stuff" done. And? Besides
that sense of accomplishment, did it do anything else
to enhance our lives?
What can rarely be found on a calendar is the scheduling
of those items that move us closer to our ideal goals
and towards our ideal lives. While we may know on an intellectual
level what is important to achieve balance in our life,
it is another matter to actually act on achieving it.
Even as we decide on what our goals are,
strive to reach them, and search for a level of balance between
our myriad responsibilities, we may feel overwhelmed. It helps
to realize that perfect balance is something we may want to
take in small bites. As we reach our goals or as new situations
come up, we will constantly need to readjust. The achievement
of balance will be an ideal for which we are changing course
on a daily basis in order to reach! Balance is something that
you will work at every day, just like you work at handling
your various "duties".
If you are attached to your calendar, stick with it, but now
use it to even better advantage! You are already used to scheduling
your time. How about scheduling balancing activities that
will enhance your life?
What difference would it make in your life
if you woke up 15 minutes earlier, and used that time
to think about your day ahead and plan a way of balancing
it with those activities that are enhancing and good
for you? Would this make a difference in your mindset,
and how you react to the curve balls that may be thrown
your way throughout the day?
Many of us set our alarm clocks for the next morning,
and either hit snooze several times, or bound out of
bed and straight through our morning rituals and out
the door.
By taking a small amount of time to plan, we may find a more
mindful way of living each day. By handling each day as its
own separate entity, we don't have to wait for the "perfect"
time to take care of our health, our finances, our relationships,
and our inner spiritual selves - we will be giving them the
attention that WE deserve on a daily basis. [Read
